Five things I'm doing this July

With the last few days of June finally feeling like summer is upon us, I've chosen my Five things I'm doing this July all outdoors. So let's keep those fingers crossed and hope the sunshine is here to stay here in London!

With the likes of Wimbledon, Hampton Court Flower Show to the concerts in Hyde Park, there's a whole host of things to get up to across the across the capital this month, but here are my personal suggestions.

Number one

Throughout the month of July head down to the bit along the Thames in-between South Bank and Tower Bridge (known as London Bridge City apparently!) to catch some free open-air screenings of the likes of Mean Girls, The Incredibles 2 and Black Panther. There'll also be showing sports, live comedy and other events, so if the weathers right I'll definitely be going along! More info here.

Number two

I love Wapping and the rich history of the Docklands, so popping down to the Wapping Summer Fete on Saturday the 13th sounds right up my street. There's plenty going on, including learning about the history of the area and even a guided walk in the morning. The River Police Museum is also holding an open day too, which has an interesting history itself. Claiming to be the oldest police force in the world, it formed in 1798 with a partnership involving the West India Company, with the aim of preventing theft from ships carrying valuable goods from the West Indies which were moored in the Port of London.

Number three

This is probably my best tip for July as I do love a view of London, so I'll be planning the weekend of the 20th/21st around the Open Rooftop event! There's loads of rooftop spaces you can visit across the two days, some of which aren't normally open to the public. There doesn't seem to be a designated website which is strange, but click here and search "rooftop" to see where you can visit! Some suggestions include the Coq d'Argent restaurant in the City, Ham Yard Hotel in Soho and the Isamaili Centre right by the V&A to name a few.

Number four

Regent Street is going traffic-free on sunday's for the next two months, and it's always a treat to actually be able to walk down it without completely loosing your cool. There's not much online but there's usually events, stalls and food bits going on too.

Number five

And I'll end with an outdoor foodie suggestion for this month...how about trying the new street food market right outside London Bridge station? Vinegar Yard is tempting me with the likes of Baba G's Indian inspired sandwiches and burgers, and Sugo's Italian filled ciabattas (look them up on Instagram and be ready to drool!).

And a little extra suggestion I haven't included in my top five just because it's technically not actually in London...

Why not get out of the centre and visit the beautiful Gatton Park on sunday the 7th when they hold their open day. Designed by the wonderfully named Capability Brown, the stunning sweeping parkland incorporates a water gardens, a Japanese garden, and all just a short drive from London. Tickets cost £5.
